These are my notes from B1G Fridays SOcial MEdia: Contentment
Social Media is giving us the illusion of companionship without the real friendship.

Like money, social media is a great servant, but a horrible master.

• Social Media is one of the biggest sources of discontentment in our lives.
• Never before in history that we could accurately measure our popularity.
• Real life happens offline. Not online.
• The more we compare with others the less satisfied we are.

We need to set Jesus in the center of everything. The only source of happiness should be entirely from Jesus.

10 How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me. 11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. Philippians 4:10-12

Contentment is an elusive commodity. Contentment should not be anchored on the circumstance of life. Rather it is confidence in the ONE who gives life.

What's the problem of too much social media?

• ENVY Financial/ Material Discontent
• Relational Discontent
• Circumstantial Discontent

Here are some application points on how to manage it:

• You need to experience the goodness of Christ Don't compare yourself to others.
• Be grateful for who you are and be grateful for what you have.
• Give yourself to others.
• Stop taking, start giving.

Contentment comes when you enjoy the present rather than what you might have. Contentment comes with Jesus. My identity is not on how many followers I have. My identity is who I am following.
